MAC is a Moroccan-American organization, founded in 1982, whose mission is to build bridges in the social, business, educational and cultural areas, between Morocco and the United States.
What are MAC members’ needs? How can we mobilize more the Moroccan-American community? How can all the concerned organizations work together and coordinate their activities, for more efficiency?
Discussions
What is MAC core business? The present vision is too large! MAC should be structured in committees dedicated to MAC main focus: 3 to 4 themes that could be repeated every year One of the important targets are the US Universities alumni newcomers Intercultural exchanges should be favored The US residents coming to settle or in departure are another target MAC should partner more with US private companies in Morocco MAC should be active for the society, not only for members Project proposition: internship for young Moroccans elite within private companies with mentors Contribute to link profit with non-profit organizations Members’ involvement should be looked at through information sharing, expertise, helping connecting people MAC should ask more proactively members to give some of their time for the association The Churchill Club – MAC partnership is a good opportunity and should be explained more to members. It is a sustainable and win-win linkage for the community More trips should be organized similarly to the one to Tangier, for example to Belghazi Museum MAC is not known in the US, by the Moroccan Consulates in the US, as well as by US universities More communication is needed from MAC in the US and in Morocco MAC should market aggressively Morocco in the US; we are are the right people to do it and appeal successfully to Americans During this transition period of brain storming, MAC should organize a survey among the members and ask them their views about MAC future and activities they want to be involved in Efforts among the Moroccan-American organisations should be centralized A coordination of committees should be set up, bringing together MAC, AmCham, the US Consulate General, American International Women’s Club, the Churchill Club and Casablanca Chicago Sisters Cities
Practical recommendations
Coordinate all Moroccan-American organizations’ efforts towards the community Carry on the brain storming period Organize a survey towards MAC members and friends
Three main questions covered a whole range of issues and introduced the debate:
1. What is our identity? Is MAC where and what we want it to be today? Should we reinvent our vision? 2. Is there possible synergy between MAC and other organisations (AmCham, Dar America, AIWC, Churchill Club, FTA related organizations…) 3. How do we build more proactive leadership and ensure good governance, whow reinforce members’ involvement ?
Discussion
We have to talk more together, to communicate more among ourselves and know each other more Get to know expectations of members by communicating more Create events where members can share their experiences with one another Events should be interesting and personal; members should find value in MAC Not always the same ones who do it all To get more people involved, projects should be managed by teams Members have to step in and take over Make a difference by doing. Action is needed Build on what has been done and move forward Organising “potlucks” is a good way to get people to know each other Use the website to network and share information about each other Help newcomers returning from US and expats fit in and adapt to new life in Morocco Reach out to companies and new people coming to Morocco
